    Question:What major constraint is worth considering with high-pressure processing?

    Answer: Branded packaging for your beverage will be limited to the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottle to sustain the high pressure. Be mindful that custom bottles, jars, and glasses won’t work with HPP machinery.

This toller is a great option for brands in the southeast region who may be running into issues with high minimums from other tolling companies.

Bevara is smaller but in a more intimate and accessible way. Kevin Forrest has been a professional and great with communication on updates.

If you want to have direct contact and a more collaborative approach to HPP, then this tolling facility could be worth a call.

Bevara is also a part of the Cold Pressure Council, a council of industry folks addressing HPP industry concerns while establishing best practices. This council includes member companies like Aldi, American Pasteurization Company, and Rutgers.

A typical google search for “hpp processing near me” will most likely show you the largest High Pressure Processing (HPP) service provider in North America, Universal Pure. Production minimums must be established and somewhat predictable before approaching this company.

We were quoted a minimum of 3,000 pounds a week of production to move forward with. That number feels on par with brand working with larger retailers and chains.

It feels like Universal Pure would be a great option for beverage brands operating in the US southeast especially with the the larger concentration of Hiperbaric HPP technology being along the west coast and northeastern

First thing to note, this HPP toller offers co-packing within the same facility. An all-in-one option may be ideal for some.

This facility was a second option behind Bevara (listed above) for it’s proximity to the Metro Atlanta area which has very limited options for HPP tolling in the southeast.

The website and Instagram claim “White-label” but there isn’t much online or otherwise to really confirm this claim. Google reviews aren’t too favorable either.

This company offers HPP tolling in addition to other manufacturing services. While they do offer some assistance in other areas of the manufacturing process it is worth noting that some services are “supportive” and not necessarily in-house.

Be mindful of how much of the process you want in the APC’s hands versus simplified tolling for your product. The American Pasteurization Company has over 17 years of high-pressure processing experience.

High pressure processing equipment can require hundreds of thousands in upfront capital, which may be tough are smaller companies just beginning to scale.

Finding the right HPP tolling facility is half the battle, the other half is making sure your brand is prepared to meet the production requirements from the HPP tollers available in the United States.

There are very limited differences between the two. The general idea is the the rPET bottle is infinitely recyclable and is a better choice for the Earth. Recycled polyethylene terephthalate is good and virgin polyethylene terephthalate is NOT as good.
